⏰ Hours: 40 hours/week.

⌛ Starting date: ASAP.

Are you ready to apply your technical skills to European projects with real-world impact? We’re looking for a hands-on and curious Junior Technical Manager to join our team and support Smart Freight Centre’s mission to decarbonize the global freight sector. If you care about logistics, climate action, and practical solutions that make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.

✈️ About Smart Freight Centre:

Think about the package that just arrived at your doorstep; the products on store shelves, or the goods being shipped across oceans. Logistics is everywhere, powering the world we live in. And because it’s everywhere, it’s also one of the biggest contributors to carbon emissions globally.

That’s where Smart Freight Centre (SFC) steps in. We’re tackling the carbon footprint of logistics head-on, working with businesses, governments, and key players around the globe. Our mission? To transform the logistics sector into a zero-emission industry by 2050—or hopefully even sooner. Want to help drive this change? Join us.

✏️ About the position:

We’re looking for a proactive and technically minded Junior Technical Manager to support a range of exciting projects across Europe and beyond. You’ll work closely with SFC’s Technical Manager and Program Teams, contributing to industry-leading initiatives like the Black Carbon Project, Clever Program, and CCAC Grants. You’ll also play a role in updating the GLEC Framework, the global method for calculating logistics emissions.

This role is ideal for someone early in their career who wants to grow their technical knowledge while also getting hands-on with project delivery, stakeholder engagement, and real climate solutions. You’ll have the chance to work with some of the world’s largest companies and support our mission through tools, trainings, and technical advice.

⭐ Here’s an idea of what tasks you might be working on:

  • Project Support: Help deliver technical projects across multiple programs, including black carbon reduction and cleaner freight solutions.
  • Emissions Accounting: Support the development and updates of the GLEC Framework and other emissions tools.
  • Technical Input: Provide clear, structured technical input on emissions reduction, energy efficiency, air pollutants, and black carbon.
  • Partner Collaboration: Work with global partners and funders to co-develop and implement practical project solutions.
  • Members Support: Assist in providing technical advice to companies and implementation partners.
  • Representation: Support SFC’s visibility by contributing to external meetings, events, and project discussions.
Ideal candidate
⭐ We are looking for someone who:

  • A Master’s degree (preferred) with a technical interest in freight logistics and an understanding of the challenges in reducing emissions.
  • Familiarity with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and environmental topics like air pollutants and black carbon. This is essential for this role.
  • A proactive, structured working style: you're organized, independent, and eager to learn.
  • Great communication skills, including writing technical content in a way that’s clear and useful.
  • Some experience managing or supporting projects: you can juggle different priorities and stay on track.
  • A collaborative approach: you enjoy working with others and value being part of a mission-driven team.
  • An eye for detail and a willingness to dive into both technical topics and practical delivery.
  • Fluent English (other languages are a plus).
  • A strong motivation to be part of a growing team working on real, scalable solutions to cut freight emissions.
