SFC India is building a platform to support the decarbonization of India’s freight ecosystem across road, rail, maritime and aviation. 
We convene government ministries, regulators, industry leaders, research institutions, and global climate actors to accelerate the transition toward greener freight systems. 
Our ambition is to build a credible and scalable Green Freight platform for India, delivering impact at national scale. 

✏️ About the position 
This is an exciting communications role at the intersection of policy, industry transformation, and climate action. 
As Communications Manager, in a hybrid set-up, you will help support how the freight decarbonization story is communicated in India across government platforms, industry engagement, digital channels and global climate discussions. 
You will work closely with the Executive Director India and the Smart Freight Centre global communications team, translating strategic initiatives into clear and engaging communications for policymakers, industry stakeholders and the broader sustainability ecosystem. 
This role combines strategic communications planning with hands-on content development, media engagement and digital communications, supporting the continued growth and visibility of SFC India. 

⭐ Here’s an idea of what tasks you might be working on 

Institutional Brand & Strategic Positioning 

  • Support the positioning of SFC India as a leading platform for green freight transformation
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of India’s communications strategy, aligned with national policy priorities and SFC’s global messaging
  • Translate complex decarbonization initiatives into clear and engaging narratives for policymakers, industry and media
  • Support storytelling around flagship initiatives, industry collaborations and national convenings
  • Ensure consistent application of Smart Freight Centre’s global brand guidelines across communications outputs

Leadership Visibility & Thought Leadership 

  • Support SFC India leadership communications and visibility
  • Help maintain a leadership communications calendar
  • Assist with development of op-eds, interviews, keynote speaking materials and industry commentary
  • Prepare briefing notes, presentations, talking points and background materials
  • Identify opportunities for visibility across conferences, policy forums and industry platforms
  • Support leadership storytelling across LinkedIn and digital channels

Media Engagement & Strategic Communications 

  • Build relationships with journalists covering logistics, climate, transport and energy
  • Support development of press releases, media kits and media briefings
  • Pitch stories and thought leadership articles to relevant media outlets
  • Monitor media coverage and emerging narratives around freight decarbonization and sustainable logistics
  • Support communications responses during major policy or industry developments

Content Strategy & Digital Storytelling 

  • Develop digital content for LinkedIn, newsletters and other communication channels
  • Translate technical freight decarbonization insights into accessible stories and communications materials
  • Support development of visual storytelling assets including infographics, explainers and short videos
  • Manage the publication process for reports, case studies and key publications, coordinating with design and communications teams
  • Coordinate with Smart Freight Centre’s global communications team to align messaging and campaigns
  • Support updates and content management for digital platforms including the SFC website
  • Maintain communications asset libraries, stakeholder contact databases and media lists

Campaigns, Events & Strategic Amplification 

  • Support communications planning around major announcements, reports and partnerships
  • Provide communications support for industry roundtables, workshops and stakeholder events
  • Help coordinate communications visibility for events, reports and project milestones
  • Support media outreach around key initiatives and pilot launches
⭐ Skills and Capabilities
  • 5–8 years of experience in communications, media, public affairs, sustainability communications or digital storytelling
  • Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Policy, Environmental Studies or related fields
  • Strong writing, storytelling and content development skills
  • Experience managing digital communications channels and campaigns
  • Experience supporting media engagement and communications strategy
  • Ability to translate technical or policy topics into accessible communications
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience working in climate, sustainability, logistics, transport or infrastructure sectors is a strong advantage
