Are you passionate about reducing the climate impacts of freight transportation and accelerating the transition to a zero-emission logistics sector?

Would you like to work alongside some of the world's largest companies, governments, NGOs, and industry leaders to drive meaningful change across global supply chains?
Smart Freight Centre (SFC) is a globally active non-profit organization dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from freight transportation through collaboration, transparency, and innovation.
We bring together multinational corporations, logistics providers, carriers, technology companies, NGOs, and policymakers to develop practical solutions that enable the freight sector to measure, manage, and reduce emissions at scale.

About Smart Freight Centre
Through globally recognized programs, methodologies, and partnerships, SFC helps organizations address complex challenges related to freight emissions accounting, reporting, target setting, and decarbonization.

Our ambition is to help reduce freight emissions by one billion tonnes by 2030 and support the transition to zero-emission logistics by 2050 or earlier.

Joining SFC means becoming part of a mission-driven, international team working at the forefront of freight decarbonization and helping shape the future of sustainable logistics worldwide.

About the Position
Road freight is one of the largest sources of transport-related greenhouse gas emissions, and electrifying commercial vehicle fleets is one of the most impactful opportunities to decarbonize logistics.
SFC's Fleet Electrification Coalition (FEC) brings together leading shippers, carriers, vehicle manufacturers, infrastructure providers, and ecosystem partners to accelerate the deployment of zero-emission trucks at scale through demand aggregation, coordinated procurement, and ecosystem development.
In North America, this includes flagship initiatives such as ZET SCALE and the development of scalable electric trucking corridors.

As a Technical Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting some of North America's most ambitious fleet electrification initiatives. You will conduct total cost of ownership (TCO), emissions, operational, and economic analyses that directly inform fleet investment decisions and deployment strategies.
You will also help improve and automate analytical processes, develop scalable data workflows, and contribute technical expertise across multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities:
Data Processing, Analytics & Modeling

  • Gather, clean, validate, and organize operational, fleet, route, and infrastructure data across multiple projects.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve total cost of ownership (TCO), emissions, operational, and economic models to support fleet electrification decision-making.
  • Develop and automate analytical workflows using Python to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability.
  • Update and maintain key model inputs including energy prices, incentives, emissions factors, vehicle performance assumptions, and infrastructure costs.
  • Conduct scenario analysis and sensitivity testing to evaluate fleet deployment strategies and investment opportunities.
  • Identify inefficiencies in current analytical processes and implement practical improvements to increase scalability and repeatability.
  • Maintain clear documentation of data sources, assumptions, methodologies, and analytical approaches.
  • Support the transition of existing Excel-based analytical tools and processes into more scalable Python-based solutions where appropriate.

Insights, Reporting & Visualization

  • Translate complex analytical outputs into clear, actionable insights for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Develop visual outputs including dashboards, maps, charts, tables, and presentations.
  • Support reporting and analytical deliverables for customers, partners, funders, and stakeholders.
  • Develop presentations and technical materials to communicate findings and recommendations effectively.
  • Present analytical findings during stakeholder meetings, workshops, conferences, and industry events.

Project Delivery & Stakeholder Support

  • Work closely with project managers and technical experts to integrate analytical insights into project delivery.
  • Support demand aggregation, procurement, ecosystem engagement, and fleet deployment activities through data-driven analysis.
  • Participate actively in project and stakeholder meetings, providing technical input and analytical expertise.
  • Contribute to analytical materials supporting RFPs, site-level assessments, deployment planning, and strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with external partners, consultants, and industry stakeholders to ensure analytical consistency and quality across projects.

What Success Looks Like
Within your first 12 months, you will have:

  • Delivered high-quality TCO, emissions, and operational analyses supporting multiple fleet electrification projects across North America.
  • Improved the consistency, efficiency, and automation of analytical workflows across FEC initiatives.
  • Developed scalable tools, datasets, and analytical resources that reduce manual effort and improve project delivery.
  • Contributed directly to fleet electrification decisions made by leading shippers, carriers, and logistics providers.
  • Established yourself as a trusted technical resource within the Fleet Electrification Coalition and broader stakeholder ecosystem.

Experience & Skills Required:

  • 3–5 years of experience in data analytics, modeling, or quantitative analysis, preferably within transportation, energy, logistics, sustainability, or related sectors.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including economic, operational, or emissions analysis.
  • Proficiency in Python for data processing, analysis, modeling, and workflow automation.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience creating data visualizations, dashboards, and analytical reports.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively in cross-functional and multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Transportation, Environmental Science, Economics, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline.

Preferred:

  • Experience with fleet electrification, electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, energy systems, or freight transportation.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar business intelligence tools.
  • Experience with GIS and spatial analysis tools.
  • Experience working with SQL databases and large datasets.
  • Familiarity with logistics operations, trucking fleets, or transportation planning.
  • Experience leveraging automation, AI-assisted analysis, or advanced analytical tools to improve data workflows.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.

Additional Information:

  • Occasional domestic and international travel may be required to support project activities, stakeholder engagement, workshops, and industry events.
  • This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of freight decarbonization and support industry-leading initiatives accelerating the transition to zero-emission trucking across North America.
