✈️ About Smart Freight Centre:
Smart Freight Centre (SFC) is a global non-profit organization dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from freight transportation. Through collaboration with industry leaders, governments, NGOs, and technology providers, SFC develops practical solutions that accelerate freight decarbonization across road, rail, ocean, and aviation sectors. The aviation program (Clean Air Transport) supports industry stakeholders in measuring, reporting and reducing emissions associated with air freight while contributing to broader sustainable aviation initiatives (such as SBTi Aviation Sector Guidance). Our aviation community consists of over a hundred committed organizations to reduce emissions from air freight.
 

✏️ About the position:

Position Summary
We seek a motivated Sustainable Aviation Intern to support our growing Aviation Program. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in sustainable aviation, freight decarbonization, emissions accounting, data analysis, and industry research. The successful candidate will work closely with experts and program team to support ongoing projects, stakeholder engagement activities, and the development of technical resources for the aviation sector. This role is ideal for a final-year (Master) student interested in aviation, sustainability, climate policy, transport, (carbon) accounting, logistics or environmental sciences.

⭐ Here’s an idea of what tasks you might be working on:

Research, Technical & Analytical Support
  • Conduct research and carry out analysis on sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), aviation emissions, carbon accounting methodologies, and emerging industry trends
  • Support analysis relating to our projects and emerging initiatives 
  • Prepare presentations, dashboards, data visualization and summary reports for external stakeholders and internal audiences
Program & Project Support
  • Assist with project coordination and administrative activities that support our community 
  • Support meeting preparation, note-taking, and action tracking.
  • Implement digital tools and optimize workflows with our available tools (Salesforce, Claude, Qualtrics, Monday.com, MS Office)
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Support engagement with our members, project and strategic partners
  • Assist with webinar, (in-person) workshops, communication, educational content, and event preparation.

Ideal candidate

Required (minimum)
  • Currently enrolled in or completed a Master’s degree in
    • Aviation Management
    • Aerospace Engineering
    • Environmental Science
    • Sustainability
    • Transport & Logistics
    • Data Analytics
    • Economics
    • Related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in a number of our digital tools
It would be great if you also have ...
  • An interest in aviation sustainability and climate change.
  • Experience with research projects or data analysis.
  • Familiarity with aviation, logistics, transport, or environmental policy.
  • Experience using Power BI, Tableau, Python, or similar analytical tools.
  • Understanding of GHGP, SBTi, EU ETS and other global
